  Discriminate on Haight

Justin Marks

Acrylics on canvas

2008

The work portrays a friend of mine getting harrassed on Haight street recently for skateboarding. One thing led to another and he was ticketed for skateboarding and arrested for not having an ID. Skateboarding in the streets of San Francisco is illegal according to the police. To most skaters it is the most respectful way to avoid pedestrians. I wanted to show the vibrance of Haight street while showing its empiness. The view of a fish eye lends depicts its perspective as a skater.
